ContaKids as an opportunity to research
Did you know?
The ContaKids method is also an opportunity for ongoing research.
Participants in our Teachers Training not only get a new profession that they can start after 7 days, they also receive the opportunity to evolve in a professional field that is alive and allows creativity and curiosity to blossom.
What does it mean?
Once their training is completed, our freshly certified teachers have all the tools to start working right away. We provide them with the theory, the structure, the practice, our observations; the tips to find the right studio, the branding kit to advertise their class…and more.
But that’s not the only option.
We also invite our teachers to make the method their own and to take it to the places that are interesting to them. The method holds a set of principles and from there, the research can be taken to many different places - from combining it with other disciplines to playing with(in) the CK class structure.
Combine with other disciplines
The participants in our teachers’ training come from a variety of movement backgrounds like dancing, yoga, martial arts or other movement disciplines - some already teaching, to children only, to adults only, or to both. We can find some in search of inspiration to combine with their main movement practice or research, whether it be specific exercises or pedagogical approaches.
Additionally, some other participants might be therapists, educators, facilitators - already working with parents, children, or both - sometimes focused on specific groups of people. We have seen the beautiful work of CK tools being brought to people with physical and mental disabilities, people who are with vision impairment or low vision, and other groups…
To give space to exchange, question and play is part of the CK philosophy. Our methodology and principles are adaptable to different environments and we love witnessing the different shapes they are taking, all vehicles of communication and connection between parents and children around the world.
Researching with(in) the frame
It is also possible to stick to the CK class format we offer *and* to play with(in) it!
A class can be given weekly or be a monthly workshop, birthday activity, part of a school or open center program,... with or without music, costumes or else. We invite teachers to understand the type of format that suits them best.
Also, future teachers learn that almost every CK exercise has its own set of variations (that’s a lot). Over the years, we have had the pleasure to discover new CK exercises invented by the teachers themselves and shared joyfully with the community. Curiosity and creativity are an important part of play and more than welcome/demanded in our field.
Finally, while some teachers welcome parents and children in general, or focus on grand-parents and grand-children; brothers and sisters; postpartum mothers; … Others target different age ranges. Our method mainly focuses on children between 2 to 5 years old, but CK also works with younger or older children!
The speed of perception is one thing to take into consideration. For example, it is possible to teach to the very little ones, they mainly need a slower pace.
The relationship with parents also changes with age. Under 6 years old, children are more attached to their parents, while children above 6 are more inclined towards friendship when it comes to playing.
Some of the CK exercises are also adaptable to older children, taking in consideration their mental coordination and their higher weight.
(…)
At ContaKids, we invite and encourage our future teachers to be themselves and to have an active relationship with our material. There is room for curiosity and creativity, there is room to bring CK to everybody.
It is part of our approach to be in a place of exchange, questioning, curiosity, playfulness and connection - to be a place of research. And it is our pleasure to share this research and witness it grow through the light of others.
